Second Bar Mitzvah
Adult Bar and Bat Mitzvah: Meaningful at Every Age - A second bar mitzvah is a relatively modern custom celebrating old age
Among religious Jews, it is customary for a man who has reached the age of 83 to celebrate a second bar mitzvah, under the logic that a "normal" lifespan is 70 years, so that an 83-year-old can be considered 13 in a second lifetime. This practice is now becoming increasingly common among other denominations as well.

Most descriptions of an adult Second Bar or Bat Mitzvah tend to focus on people of a certain age: women old enough to have grown up when females had no ritual purpose on the bimah (podium) of any synagogue and 83-year-old men who celebrate a second bar mitzvah, having lived a life span of 70 years since the first, much as actor Kirk Douglas did.
Adults pursue adult Bar/Bat mitzvah due to missed opportunity as a childhood

83-year-old men who celebrate a second bar mitzvah. While a second wedding to renew wedding vows is common, most people don't even think of a second Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah at 83.
Bar is son in Aramaic, which is the language of the Jews while Bat means daughter. On the other hand, Mitzvah means commandments in Hebrew. Therefore, the terms refer to the son or the daughter of the commandments respectively.
83 is the perfect age to become Bar or Bat Mitzvah all over again. Celebrating the Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah, whether it is the first or second time, with the recitation of the Torah in this time honored tradition is a wonderful way to celebrate a full life. What an impression it will have on the grandchildren and great-grandchildren! They will learn that it is never too much for something so important and special.

"I have come across several people who chose their 83rd birthday as the appropriate time to have a Second Bar Mitzvah."
David Golan

"The unique thing is we have three of them celebrating a second bar mitzvah. This is the first time we have done it."
